Life didn’t begin with a therapy room.
It began in a working class family, with ordinary people doing their best, making mistakes, loving imperfectly and figuring things out as they went along.
Which, when you think about it, is still what most of us are doing.
I’m Andrew Boyton. Drew to my friends. Never Andy.
I’m a therapist, coach, consultant, father of five, grandfather, single dad, art lover, coffee drinker, occasional red wine enthusiast and enthusiastic hill walker when the weather cooperates.
I’ve spent more than 23 years helping people make sense of themselves, their relationships and their lives. But some of the most important things I’ve learned haven’t come from training courses or textbooks. They’ve come from being human.
I’ve known trauma. I’ve experienced childhood adversity. I’ve navigated neurodiversity. I’ve lived through loss, disappointment, change, uncertainty and the uncomfortable reality that life rarely follows the plan we had in mind.
What these experiences taught me is that people are often far stronger than they realise.
I’ve also learned that healing isn’t usually about becoming someone new. More often, it’s about emerging or finding your way back to yourself that was once lost.
Much of my work focuses on relationships because relationships shape everything. The relationship we have with ourselves. The relationship we have with partners, children, parents, friends and colleagues. The relationship we have with the world around us.
I work with people recovering from trauma and abuse, facing anxiety, grief, addiction, shame, relationship difficulties and major life transitions. I work with couples trying to find a way forward, whether that means beginning again or ending well.
Alongside therapy, I provide executive and therapeutic coaching and consulting. My background includes working with startups, large corporates and critical national infrastructure, which means I understand both boardroom pressures and kitchen table conversations. Sometimes they’re not as different as people think.
I care deeply about ethics, integrity and creating relationships that are healthy, sustainable and honest. I believe trust matters. I believe kindness matters. I believe accountability matters too.
I also believe that laughter matters.
Not because life is always funny, but because sometimes a little humour helps us carry things that would otherwise feel too heavy.
When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me wandering around an art gallery, drinking coffee, walking up a hill somewhere, spending time with family or wondering whether buying another book will somehow create more shelf space.
If you’ve reached a point in life where something needs to change, or where you simply need somewhere to think, talk and be heard, I’d be honoured to help.
After all, none of us was meant to figure everything out alone.

How I work
Relational
I believe our difficulties and our growth both live inside relationships. That belief shapes everything I do.
Reducing harm
Change should protect the people and systems around us, not just the individual in the room.
Depth with direction
I combine psychological depth with practical, honest movement forward.
